Fortunately, here in the South, that means a slight dip in temperature and not the fearful freezing of the North. This year, I’ve decided to do a big deal about Autumn equinox though. The kids and I are going to celebrate wildly.
Well, we’re going to decorate a bit and have an end of summer feast and a beginning of fall feast. I’ll be working at dinner time on the actual equinox (Tuesday) so we’ll spread it out over a week. The highlight of the events? The pie festival.
Yep. Pies. Small pies, not full-size pies, as much as possible. But still. There will be some deliciousness. I am buying most of them (apple, cherry, pumpkin, lemon meringue) but I think I might make the chocolate one – after all, it doesn’t get easier than that. I’m even going to try to make meringue for the topping. And no, we won’t eat them all at one time, they’ll be spread out over the week too.
Anyhow. It’s nice that I can do things like this and not feel guilty about it. Moving forward with my life…

M is fine. Its my favorite time if year . The pies sound great.

Yay! Pies. What about Nesselrode? That was an actual pie.

Wow, I’d never heard of Nesselrode pie – had to google it. But how cool! And nope. Don’t even know where I would find chestnut purée…

Make your own, I reckon. Or say “Screw it”. And have Hostess Twinkies.

Hey – hey – no Hostess Twinkies here, thank you very much! I don’t even think they’re food.

An interesting question. I remember, when I was a mere child, Hostess and Wonder Bread were committed advertisers on “kiddie shows” Snowballs, Cupcakes, Twinkies, all touting the “creme filling”.

Yeah, we never ever had those when I was a child – none of them, including Wonder Bread. My children would never have had them if it weren’t for their Dad, who loved them. Which means they don’t have that childhood food” factor for me.

We rarely had them. My parents, when they became grandparents, gave their grandchildren Little Debbie snack cakes. The kids called them The Little Debbie Food Group.

So nice to see you posting again! Your voice has been missed. I think a week long celebration of the end of one season and the start to another is a beautiful and wonderful thing! Leaf art! Sky gazing. And pies! Have a wonderful time, celebrating and making merry. It’s appropos that you’re having pie, as we celebrate the fullness of the season ending with the harvest and there you are…pie perfection!
love,

Hey, ‘nilla! Good to see you back too! Yeah, I think it’s going to be fun, and the pie festival is definitely timely for the season. My granddaughter is all in on decorating and art work so that makes it fun too. Thanks for coming by!
