Words, words and more words…

I’m laughing about today’s WordPress prompt for today: If you could permanently ban a word from general usage, which word would it be? Why?

I’m not one to ban words just on general principle. If I were going to ban any word, it would probably be the n-word, but then there are black people who use the word with each other and I’m certainly not going to suggest that they shouldn’t do that! So there are no words ban.

However, personally. I don’t call people “bitch” or talk about someone being a bitch. I’m pretty sure I wouldn’t accept it if I had a Dom who wanted to call me bitch. It seems funny to think that could be a hard limit, but it might be. I’m trying to imagine – if he were the perfect Dom in every other way… Nope. I mean, ok it could happen, in the throes of deep submission and multiple orgasms, I could see myself saying, “yes, Sir, you can call me anything you want…” But I might take it back later.

I will use the verb form of bitch though – “Sheesh, don’t bitch so much!” Or expressions of sympathy during hard times, “Aww, man, that’s a bitch! I’m so sorry that happened.”

I hate when people use “female” words to describe men as weak. Whether it’s bitch or pussy or male slut, I just find it super offensive. Of course, I super hate it when they use “lady” or “girl” as a pejorative against men. Good grief.

I think I’ve said before that I don’t mind the word “cunt” – although only as a term for female anatomy. I can’t imagine calling someone that, or being called “cunt.” Nope. Well. Only under very specific circumstances. I mean – like I said before – call me something when I’m all lost in sub space and I may only object vaguely, not very persuasively. That doesn’t mean I’m going to be ok with it later.

On the flip side of the words I don’t like are the words I love when my Dom uses them. Call me “baby” and it touches my heart. Call me “girl” or “little girl” and it makes me shiver. “Good girl” is a whole bundle of pleasure. Touch me and tell me, “MINE,” and it makes my heart pound, my knees weak. Predictable as those words are, they still do it for me.

What does it for you? What words are magical and bring pleasure?

  1. Seeing how I pretty much commented on most of these words on your last post I’ll just skip to words that do it or don’t for me. Lol

I was telling a friend the other day, one who uses the word Daddy, that that is one word I can’t. I went on to explain the reasons why I think it is a *personal* major turn off for *me*. Then I shared this story: a million moons ago, I was , ahem, busy with/on? B. At one point he said something and in that something was the word Daddy. I instantly stopped and gave him a look that could have probably frozen molten lava! He let out a loud exhale and said, ” Oh thank God! That felt so wrong, I am so glad you didn’t like it ” 🤣

Anyway, the good girl only does something in very specific situations ( if it comes from B)- don’t ask because I can’t think of one right now. Lol. And anything regarding size, is just typical things I hear from countless people all the time ( I’m 5 foot 2), so it’s rather a normal occurrence. It does make me feel soft and sweet, cared for but it isn’t a Ds thing really. B doesn’t call me baby but I have a friend or 2 that will say it once and a while. It is very heartwarming . Almost like you can feel them stroking your hair.

“Mine” is definitely a classic. Probably the one that gets the heart fluttering the most, provided I’m in the right state of mind. Lol

    • Yeah, I’m with you on “Daddy.” Great story about B trying it and being relieved that you didn’t like it. I’m petite too – 5 foot even – but I think ‘baby’ is just a term of endearment that touches me. It is heart-warming!

Yeah, I think MINE is big with lots of us.

Thanks, as always, for sharing your thoughts!!

      • ROFL Willie. I worked in an elementary/middle school for a while and kids would look at me and say, “Look! I’m almost as tall as you!” To which I always replied, “Baby, anybody can be as tall as me.” Lol.

      • Mom my is/was your height. She’s still around ( knock on wood) but says she’s shrinking. Lol. When one of my nieces was so excited to be taller than her , my sister laughed ( she’s 5′ 8). “Even aunt Willie is taller than Grandma”. Rude for someone who has clearly far too many inches in her legs!

One time when our youngest was young, my Mom was telling us a story. She said, “when I was little ..”. He interjected, ” Grandma I say young, because I’m still little”. She laughed and said, ” Well E, I should probably start using young too instead of little. Because I’m just getting littler “. Lol. He did thankful grow!

  2. I’m not a big fan of derogatory language, in general, and find most swear words distasteful. We have two nieces on my husband’s side who cuss like sailors and I still find it disappointing they talk like that. But there are lots of words that I love hearing come out of my husband or Sir’s mouth. My husband calls me baby girl when he’s feeling sentimental and I still love hearing my Sir call me honey (probably shows his age). And when Sir uses words like “consequences” or “misbehavior”….well, those words give me tingles in all the right places 🙂 XOXO

    • Baby girl IS sweet. I’m not a fan of “honey.” have heard it over used too much in the south, I guess, but it’s sweet that your Sir calls you that. “Consequences” gets me too! Your stance on cussing and so on always makes me picture you as kind of delicate and – dainty? Of course, again, i often see this through a US southern lens, which is a bit different.

I rarely use swear words or even crude terms in the vanilla world, although I will for emphasis sometimes. I’ll use euphemisms for the most part – so when I use the harsher language, people know they need to pay attention. I do love language…

      • Jumping in here. It’s interesting not only who the words come from, but where that person is located too.

I have a friend who sometimes calls me sweetheart. He’s from a different country so it feels genuine. Here it can be sarcastic (?) Or not as heartwarming. Unless of course it’s your Mom or Dad. Lol.

Funnily enough, I never really swore before Ttwd. Now I release the odd F-bomb when I’m upset. To me it’s the equivalent to a fist through the wall! It’s a slow burn word…starts off soft with the F….and finishes with the bang of the K. 🤣

      • LOL…not delicate or dainty. I just find other words to express myself. Though, like you…because I rarely use swear words, when I do, people around me notice!

I found it interesting how you see “honey” through a southern lens and I was seeing it more through a generational one. Different regions definitely have their unique way of using particular words.

Regarding terms of endearment, when my husband and I first embarked on this journey of opening up our marriage, we set boundaries around what we both felt comfortable with. His hard limits around endearments included no one else calling me “baby girl”, “princess”, or “my loves” and that I don’t call anyone else “Daddy”. Thankfully, that all worked out as Sir prefers “honey” and “sweetie”, and also “little one”… or, gulp, “young lady” in some situations.

In sexual situations, it would be extremely difficult for me to get used to someone wanting to use derogatory language in referring to me. While I accept that a submissive’s role is to serve and obey, I also feel strongly that I am not “less than” in any way. While I didn’t have to negotiate this with Sir, as he’s not a fan of derogatory language for women either, I’m pretty sure this would be a hard limit for me if I were to submit to another some day.

      • That’s really lovely that you and your husband have those limits around terms of endearment. I like that.

Oh, I don’t think that I’m “less than” anyone because I’m submissive – or because I’m short or old or for any other reason!! And I wouldn’t accept anyone calling me anything that I thought was derogatory. I thought KM’s comment really described the way I view slut:
“Slut is one of those interesting words. It seems to have two separate sets of uses, one is the more sex positive owning of the word and/or use in a dynamic. In this one, the word is almost positive and loving.” I totally endorse that. I know some people feel that way about “bitch” – that one just doesn’t work for me. But I don’t endorse anything that would make anyone feel “less than”

Thanks for all your insight and perspective!! 💜

      • I wasn’t suggesting that you thought of yourself as “less than” because you identify as a submissive, olivia. I was simply stating that I don’t feel less than because I am a submissive. But some submissives do feel that they have a lower status and may be less likely to negotiate equality in use of language. I also recognize that some submissives enjoy being verbally degraded and that this is part of the appeal. That’s not my particular kink (at this time) though I am learning that a certain level of embarrassment, at the direction of my Sir, does make me a bit squirmy (in the good way).

      • YES…. I love the good kind of squirmy….

Oh, and comeuppance! I LOVE this word. When I see it used in old-timey stories around discipline spanking it gives me the tingles 🙂

  3. I see there has been a lot of discussion on this topic lol. Let me start by saying you all tower above me! LoL.

I generally dislike derogotory words also like slut, bitch, whore, though I think I have said before I am slowly de-sensitising to these in the D/s context.

I love baby, and baby girl. Good girl and mine do give me flutters. As I have j little side Daddy works too when I’m in that space.

On the flip side, hearing unacceptable and we will ‘talk’about this gives me flutters of a different kind, or any other words of warning that I am overstepping.

    • Lol, yay, I love it when I get to tower over someone! It’s so rare.

Yep, baby girl is good for me too – and I love knowing that you have a little side. Those other flutters are pretty special too in my mind!

Thanks, Roz! I’m so glad my blog let you comment! 💜

  4. If you had asked me about being called good girl a while ago I would have said “what – no way”! The first time I was called good girl my stomach flipped and it surprised the heck out of me. Being a chronic overthinker it percolated in my brain for days. Lol.

At the risk of repeating…the other is Mine. This was the bomb! It gives me all the feels!

It’s interesting how where you live can influence how you feel about a word. In my part of the world sweetheart is a term of endearment however I still don’t like being called it. I think it’s because I see it as more of a word you use with children. I call my daughter sweetheart.

Slut I’m fine with as long as it’s used in a sex positive way but bitch and whore are a big No and I too am in Willie’s camp regarding Daddy.

I have to say….loving all the short ladies!!

    • It’s funny, isn’t it, about the “good girl” thing… I bet it did percolate for a while! Not surprised about “Mine.” It seems almost universal that we like that.

Yeah, I’m not crazy about sweetheart either – although it’s pretty common in the southern US. It always seems like it’s either a bit sarcastic or like it should be coming from a hard-boiled detective. Although, yep, I might call my grands that from time to time.

Oh,I’m with you on whore too!! That’s a big NO.

Lol about loving all the short ladies! Thanks! 💜
