Thank you all so much for the birthday wishes, and thank you for all the reassurance that being old doesn’t mean washed up or worthless. I promise I agree with you on that!
And at the same time, I have to say this. Cause if I can’t talk about this here, I don’t know where I could. But I’m going to whisper it and then if you don’t want to hear any more about it, you can scroll down real fast and not read that part of the post.
Are you ready?
Here it comes:
{Whispering} Age is not “just a number.”
I mean, the difference between being 8 years old, 16 years old, and 32 is vast. Even if the 32 year old is not necessarily more educated or wiser, they’ve experienced things that the 16 year old has not. Even a sheltered 32 year old and a street-savvy 16 year old are in a different developmental stage.
That’s true for a 32 year old and a 64 year old as well.
No, things didn’t radically change for me on the 21st compared to a week before or even a year before. (Although they do for the 8 year old.) But 64 is truly different than 50, let’s say. Better in some ways, not so much in others. But I think that’s ok.
At some point, it’s important to acknowledge that life is winding down. It doesn’t mean my life is over, it doesn’t mean I can’t still enjoy it and grow and develop and have adventures and do all the things. But it’s different.
Look at these faces.
Look at them. That’s who I’m on my way to being. I’m ready to embrace that.
Hope you had a lovely birthday Olivia. I agree with you, the difference as we get older is vast, even if it doesn’t necessarily mean we are wiser. I love your positivity π
Hugs
Roz

Thanks, Roz. It was pretty lovely. And I’m glad that makes sense to you – plus, I’m pretty sure some of us ARE pretty wise! So there’s that. π π

Ahhh, one should never judge a book by it’s cover, and our age is merely a compendium of the trails and tribulations of what we have become. Much like the pages of said book, no matter what chronological age I may be, I see, feel, and live with a youthful exuberance. My eyes only see out, and there is so much new to discover and experience. For the record, I am on the cusp of a seventh decade, yet I prefer to draw energy from those who are 15 to 20 years younger. I spend quality time with my kids, and my grandkids, and now a ggk is in the works. All my life I have done my best to find the good in every day I have, embrace change, as it is inevitable, and try to share what I have learned over the years with those who matter, and whomever else that may listen, or benefit. Be happy and at peace, dear Olivia, and I truly feel that you are. Every day you wake up us a good day. Some may be more challenging than others, but they are all good days!

I’m so glad you responded to this post – I appreciate your thoughts, as always.
Of course – not judging a book by its cover. π I think your level of zen comes more often with age, and being able to have that and embrace the day is wonderful. It sounds like you have a wonderful approach to life.
I am pretty content with who I am, ir not always happy with how I do things and all the circumstances around me. But I’ve got some level of zen going on too, so that’s good! Life could be miserable otherwise. And I have so much to be grateful for. I think I try to see things as they are, you know?
Thanks again for sharing your wisdom here! ππΉ

You do have a good life Olivia, and do not ever let anyone convince you that you do not. As long as you find contentment and happiness in where you are, then that is really all that matters. I feel that you have a wonderful soul and also feel that those who are in your world, (family, friends, and most importantly the Grands), hold you in high esteem. We all have different approaches and opinions as to how we deal with who we are. And none of us are right or wrong in what we believe, We do the things that fit our world the best and make us the happiest. Having an open mind and looking at others opinions show us things that we may never have seen. Adapting to, accepting, and embracing all the changes I’ve/we’ve seen over the years has been mind boggling. But, I do love change and feel that it has enriched the life that I’ve grown to enjoy so much. Sharing thoughts/opinions/feelings with people like you expand my world a little more also, and that is a good thing. I’ve been blessed to have been around as long as I have and give thanks as I wake up to face each new day. Thanks for the compliments, and sharing your wisdom too. Hugs to ya!
