How ’bout Some Cheese with that Whine?

So, I got my nails done today. I used to do it religiously every two weeks, but the pandemic completely disrupted that habit. Now, I go sporadically.

I’ve written about getting pedicures before. I have lots of opinions about how I like them. The pedicurist can’t be too delicate with my feet – or too harsh. I want a whirlpool foot bath with very warm (not too hot) water. And — well, it doesn’t matter. i won’t bore you with my other criteria.

I’m never sure if I’m a princess getting catered to, or the slave chosen for the night, being prepared for the Master. But either way, I went to my regular salon today, expecting them to get it mostly right.

But they have new chairs. Lovely chairs, I’m sure. But they’re big.

You may not know this, but I am a short person. The chairs are really big. So if I sit back, my knees don’t bend over the edge and my legs can’t dangle.

Not quite like Lily Tomlin as Edith Ann on the very old Saturday Night Live shows:

But close to that. If I scooted forward a bit and tried to lean back, I was practically lying down.

I started playing with the chair adjustments, trying to scoot the back up straight, looking for a control that would tilt the seat down so my feet weren’t dangling above the water.. . and none of it was working right and my whole body just felt wrong.

Meanwhile, the pedicurist, whose first language was not English, was holding out the color chart and telling me to pick a color.

I said, “Wait – I don’t know if I can do this – this chair is so big – it’s too big…” and another woman hurried over to try to straighten the back more but it really wasn’t enough and there was a flurry of movement as someone else got me a pillow and another client was showing me which controls I might try – and the first pillow didn’t help, so they rushed to the back for a different type and…

Afterwards, I am a little embarrassed. The second pillow they offer is the solution, but it had taken half a village to get me settled, and even then my feet never do touch the bottom of the foot bath. I felt grateful for having been taken care of but also a little bit worried that I’d just sounded like the epitome of another spoiled white woman.

But we move on. My pedicurist offers the colors again, and I pick one.

They are out of the one I want. No big deal. I pick another one – red, with a touch of glitter.

And all is well, until we get to the hot wax. Usually, they put the plastic bag with the wax down and you place your foot in the bag. But – remember – my feet don’t touch the ground. She puts the bag around my foot and kind of pushes the wax up onto it – and – well, there is a fine line between hot and too hot. And I don’t want to complain more – but –

I keep thinking it is going to get cooler and be ok, but she keeps pushing wax up on my foot, and I suddenly realize it is too hot- yikes! I do speak up then, and she fixes it. My feet are not scalded, and all is well.

Until she starts painting my toes – and it turns out the new color is orange.

I do not like orange. I mean, pumpkins are one thing, but I can not look at orange toenails on my feet. I speak up quickly this time.

The color chart comes back out. I don’t even look for another red – I choose a lovely purple. “You are sure?” she asks kindly. Yes. I am sure. And just minutes later – ta-dum – my feet are ready!

‘Ready for what?’ you ask.

Ready for next weekend.

I’ll be getting away to have some much needed alone time – and my Sir will be having some as well. So there will also be together time. D/s time together. And you know how I love the rites and rituals of preparation.

Do I think my Sir cares if I get my nails done before then? Um, no. I don’t imagine he’ll be looking at my toes that much. He does care about whether I take care of myself though, and I think this falls into that category. And who knows – maybe he will be thrilled with my pretty purple toes. We’ll see in just six more days!!

I feel like most of this post was just me whining about my nail experience, without actual wine or cheese anywhere, so thank you for hanging out with me. Talking about it does makes me wonder about other people – do you get pedicures or do your own nails? If you have them done, how do you feel about it? What do you like or not like? Inquiring minds want to know…
