Celebrating the Blue Wave

Democrats won big last night here in the US – and I’m so relieved and grateful. Maybe the tide is turning.

I feel like we’ve been battered so badly by Trump, and the things he’s done, that it’s hard to feel the joy. And I know it doesn’t solve the huge problems we have in this country. But it’s a necessary first step, and now we have some opportunity to make things different.

I’m proud of Georgia. We elected the first black woman governor in the country, but there were lots of other firsts. Trump may not like DEI, but it sure looks like the rest of us do!

I heard my daughter gather my grandkids to listen to our governor, Keisha Lance Bottoms, talk about the first time she saw the Governor’s mansion when she was six, and how she wanted to go in there. The audience interrupts to chant, “And you did!! And you did!!” But she goes on to say, “And if I had gone in there when I was six years old, I would have gone in alone. But 50 years later, I will not just walk into the governor’s mansion, I will walk into the State Capital too, bringing with me the hopes and dreams of little boys and girls all across Georgia.”

By the time our future governor had finished her sentence, my daughter and I were both crying.

First black woman governor in the nation. “This,” my daughter told the kids, “is history in the making.”

I’m so glad that I’m here to witness it. And grateful that I can share this with you.

I wanted to share the clip here, but I can only share a link. Enjoy.
