Happy Equinox!! Or Happy Mabon, if that’s more your style. Either way, we’re welcoming the turning of time, when the balance between day and night shifts, and the nights get longer.
It doesn’t feel much like autumn here Where I Live. Temperatures are still up in the low 80’s, and it’s mostly sunny and warm. But I’m wearing hoodies in the morning, and even 84 doesn’t feel as hot as it does in summer. We start wearing boots and long pants anyhow.
I’m not a fan of winter, and I love that we won’t have much of one here. Every year I commit to not hating winter, to embracing the Danish and Norwegians’ concept of hygge. And I think that every year I do a bit better, but it’s a slow process. Do you have a least favorite season?
To appreciate the Autumn Equinox, I have to really tap into my sense of the turning of the world, the yin and the yang of life. Some years I celebrate, some years I don’t. I’d almost forgotten about it this year, so this post is one way to mark the occasion. I’m curious – do you celebrate? Take note of it?
I found this image on Pinterest of ways to celebrate Mabon and thought I’d try a couple tonight. They are really simple – if you can’t see the image, there’s a list below.

- Have a Feast, BBQ, or Bonfire
- Go Apple Picking
- Create a Gratitude List
- Admire the Changing Leaves
- Partake in a Wine or Beer Tasting
- Get Creative – Make a Corn Dolly or Harvest Basket
- Get Organized and Donate Things you No Longer Need.
- Honor the Harvest Moon
- Bake Fruit Pies, Cakes or Breads
And here is a Mabon prayer for balance:
Equal hours of light and darkness
we celebrate the balance of Mabon,
and ask the gods to bless us.
For all that is bad, there is good.
For that which is despair, there is hope.
For the moments of pain, there are moments of love.
For all that falls, there is the chance to rise again.
May we find balance in our lives
as we find it in our hearts.
I’m off to make my gratitude list. May you be blessed with abundance and filled with gratitude. 💜

Night and day are balanced only twice a year. The rest of the year the balance is different but it is there if we look for it.
We may only feel balanced some of the time. The rest of the time we can find balance if we choose to look for it.
Happy equinox Olivia. May you always find your balance.

Thank you, James.
Of course you’re right about the balance. If I sound like I spend a lot of time looking for my own balance – well, I guess I do. It seems llike if I don’t make that part of my journey, I end up swept away in a maelstrom of other people’s needs and wants.
So I appreciate the good wishes for balance-finding! Happy Equinox, James! 💜

I do take note, of all the seasons really. Each one has me doing something from the obvious ‘spring cleaning’ to changing over the decor. In the fall the wood pile starts calling my name! *smiles* In the winter it’s the furry pillows, wool blankets and sweaters … there is always something. I don’t decorate for Christmas but I decorate for each season.
The kitchen too, that starts to change from quick bbq dinners to more batch cooking and storing for those dark busy days when you just want a warm home made meal but have no energy left at days end! lol Trips to the farmers markets become more often too, that’s always nice.
In the garden the summer flowers are fading and the fall story starts to appear, the ones to feed the bees and the ones just for me to enjoy. The leafy ones start to return to the earth to feed the early spring bulbs that will pop through the snow, if we have any! So i suppose this is my very long winded – Yes, yes i do notice! *chuckle*
Happy equinox to you, Olivia!!

I love reading this! I’m glad you shared some of your practices here. Practices connected with seasons have such a nice flow. You really capture that with your words.
Thank you, my friend.

My bunny self became in tune with nature and energy long ago. I don’t think it’s much of a choice anymore,! Lol
Joy in simple things is key for me. Some think it’s basic or easy way out but when you realize how many can’t seem to find it… Well, I think it’s the harder mountain to climb in fact. 💜💜💜💜
Your posts often make me go cerebrel! Lol I’m happy to do so, hope it’s not too much 😅

Well, I can tell how connected you are to nature, it comes across in your writing.
And I love that my posts “make you go cerebral!” I always appreciate your comments. 💜

Thanks for the post, Olivia. We don’t experience autumn here, where I live but I love knowing about it 💜

Thanks! I’m glad you enjoyed hearing about it! We don’t have a big leaf-changing experience either, but the days sure do get shorter. Thanks for commenting!! 💜

It’s also still quite warm (“Second Summer”) where I live and we’ve had a False Fall, of course. I am eager for real autumn to hit so I can move back into my leggings and jeans – though I’ll be missing the ease of a sundress soon enough! Autumn is my favorite season, by far. The coziness and mildness of it.

‘Second Summer’ and ‘False Fall’ – we had those where I lived before! I like autumn more now than I did when I lived there – autumn only lasted a few weeks and then we dove into winter. Nope. I’d rather be sweaty and miserable than freezing and wanting to stay in the house!
Thanks for commenting!! 💜
